If you are a connoisseur of horror films, don’t believe the hype about this one. It is okay, occasionally very good, but generally derivative and inconsistent. This is not “The Silence of the Lambs” or “The Haunting of Hill House” or “The Exorcist,” movies that I would be perfectly happy to be stuck on a desert island with permanently.
There are some very good moments, but also a lot of derivative and borderline incompetent ones. I would definitely go to see this director’s next film, but if you go to this one with reasonable expectations, you will enjoy it more.
