Review of Hereditary (2018) by Michael A — 08 Jun 2018
First off, don't let the ads fool you. This movie is not your typical jump scare, blood and guts, I'm so scared I can't watch type of film. It does however, contain many parts that will leave you saying "now that's (insert expletive) up!" I believe that is what the director was attempting to do when making this film.
If you want torture, gore, stupid people staying in the woods with a slasher on the loose and not simply leaving, this is not the movie for you. If you want to have your mind messed with and be strapped in for 2hrs of "don't look away or you might miss something" entertainment, then see this movie.
I attended the Thursday night sneak peek showing and I was amazed by how the audience was clinging to every detail. The theater was silent and one "cluck" after another shook all of us to the core.
The acting is superb, the music is unsettling, the story so well written, by the time the climax is reached, you will be breathless. The movie starts slow, and like slowly turning up the heat on a pot of water intensifies until the final 20 minutes surges into a rolling boil.
See it on the big screen with the great theater sound! If you liked A Quiet Place you will also like Hereditary. Not "this generations exorcist", but still worth seeing just for the psychological creepiness.
