Review of Hereditary (2018) by Justin T — 11 Jun 2018
Horrifying, tense, and heavy. If you're looking for jump scares and the run-of-the-mill horror film, that Hollywood so often churns up, then this isn't for you. Unlike the vast majority of horror films out there today, that are made for 15-year-old kids to go and scream their heads off, this film emphasizes atmosphere and environment.
It's a slow burn. Slow is the key word. For two hours, you feel like you're either holding your breath. With no jump scares, clever and slow camera movement, tense sound work and music, disturbing imaging, and fantastic foreshadowing, this is the best horror film in years.
There is no scene in this film that doesn't mean something. This will go down as an iconic, and classic, horror film in the years to come.
