Review of Hereditary (2018) by Miss I — 13 Jun 2018
Since Hollywood and/ or A24 owns IMDb, I'll leave my review here. I literally watched my 1-star review disappear before my eyes. The review is as follows:
Another A24 bait-and-switch = yet another audience-panned 'Horror' film.
Hereditary is a Drama with horrific/ graphic scenes and nothing more. It's much too weird to be wonderful and the characters are much too oblivious to be believable. I've read that 57 minutes were left on the cutting room floor and I wish the final scene had been left there as well. Nod or knock-off, it's Rosemary's Baby all over again and I didn't pay money to see a movie that's already been done- perfectly. Hereditary would have been over in 20 minutes if Toni Collette's character had only looked through her mother's things. Then we have the reveal during her drop-in at the support group. Clueless much? I'll entertain the thought that she knew her mother dabbled in the occult and didn't know how deeply or didn't buy into any of it but it seems to me she would have asked more questions along the way and not blindly wear jewelry gifted by her mother or repeat words from a page given to her by a 'friend' without knowing what they mean. This movie is a mess and the only way I'd watch it again is if the full 3-hour cut were made available. Requiem for a Dream is a genuine nightmare and I can't even look at it on a retail shelf, let alone view it a second time. Hereditary, however, is just dumb.
