Review of Hereditary (2018) by Cristian B — 14 Jun 2018
One of the creepiest horrors movies I've seen in a long time. Writer/director Aster makes an astonishing debut and creates haunting images that will burn in your memory for days. His depiction of grief and dysfunction within this family unit is raw and unsettling.
The movie is a slow burn, but never boring or predictable and builds to a terrifying finale. This a step above the usual horror cliches because the audience is invested in the characters, who are brought to life by an excellent cast.
Wolff is fantastic in his supporting role as the son, but it's Collette as the mother who anchors the movie in a riveting and emotionally gruelling performance. Her range is gripping and enthralling to witness.
This is career-best work from Collette in a movie that will linger for days. One of the best horror movies I've seen.
