Review of Hereditary (2018) by Rick V — 23 Sep 2018
I went into this skeptically as I haven't entertained the idea of watching a horror movie since The Ring. That being said, it was recommended by the clerk at my local alternate movie rental shop. He told me it would stay with me well after its end, and man, was he ever right.
It's difficult to review this film without giving too much away, but I'll try. This isn't just the best horror movie I've seen in a very, very long time, it's perhaps the best horror movie I've seen period. I know that's a bold statement, as I've seen and adore The Shining, Psycho, you know, the classics. Hereditary checks off every nuance as to what comprises a great horror film. The story is well though out, well delivered, and best of all, believable. The acting, particularly the character played by Toni Collette, is absolutely phenomenal. Hell, everything right down to the film's cinematography and editing is so good and well thought out, that it is is worthy of winning a number of awards in the realm of film pageantry. Yes, it is that good, and as I'm still thinking about it (and recommending it to all of my friends). Be forewarned, this is a real horror film, and shouldn't be watched by people who are easily triggered or squeamish. If you don't fall into this category, you owe it to yourself to see this as soon as you can. Watch this in a good, horror film setting, and enjoy the ride. I promise it's one you'll never forget.
