Review of Hereditary (2018) by Hayden P — 21 Aug 2018

This movie is a work of sheer genius in the most twisted sense. Don't listen to most of the people who rated this movie, most of them probably have no clue what an allusion is or how to enjoy anything that isn't a PC disney marketing con that plays on their pathetic notion of good storytelling but I digress for Hereditary is a movie for film savants and thankfully not the drooling masses.

So what makes it so well rounded? First off all the technical aspects were overwhelming in their detail, most notably the camera work and cinematography. The score added so much to the ominous atmosphere sounding like a decaying night club sinking into shadow.

The acting was authentic to a point where I genuinely felt as though I was viewing real interactions and behaviors, Toni Collette being the films tour de force. Story wise Hereditary is flawless, combining archetypal elements of tragedy and contemporary family dynamics it never fails to keep you on your toes.

Ari Aster knocked it out of the park especially when you consider his rookie status and deserves to be counted among the horror greats for his ambition and originality. In summation Hereditary is not for the faint of heart nor the faint of mind.

If you think marvel, michael bay, or disney is the epitome of intellectual entertainment stay in your corner because your feeble comprehension of this film will leave you in denial of its genius. If you are a fan of film as an art form and wish to be challenged Hereditary will not disappoint.
