Review of Hereafter (2010) by Kimberly B — 10 Aug 2011
I liked this movie, but I expect many people might not. The reasons? ok, first you need to be willing to buy into the whole psychic thing, and then you need to be able to excuse the improbable converging of the lives of three separate characters, all living in different countries. The too-easy and too-neat ending. Some plot holes. And so on.
But I liked it, despite these things. The acting was good (even if Bryce Dallas Howard made me want to smack her), and I was involved and engaged in the plot and the characters' lives. I like the metaphysical aspects of the story and -- yes -- the ending (if it were too pat). It made me think, even if it's not exactly covering new or innovative ground, and I shed a few tears . . . which, I admit, is not so uncommon since I am a bit of a sap.
All in all, this was an underappreciated film and it confirms my friend's comment. She once said, "You know, I don't particularly like Matt Damon, but I always enjoy his movies!".
