Review of Here Comes the Boom (2012) by Al A — 18 Feb 2013
Here Comes the Boom is a feel good comedy about a biology teacher, played by Kevin James, trying to save the music program from being eliminated. He does this by signing up to be a MMA fighter and raising money by losing some fights and winning others.
The music teacher, played by Henry Winkler, acts as a trainer of sorts. So does an adult student that Kevin is trying to teach citizenship to, played by Bas Rutten (a real former MMA star). Bas trains Kevin on the basics of mixed martial arts and Kevin actually manages to win a few matches.
This movie is definitely one that tries to tug at the heartstrings and appeals to the emotional side. There are a few comedic moments, but it's more about Kevin saving the music program.
It's a pretty good movie and Henry Winkler is great in it.
