Review of Here Comes the Boom (2012) by Nathan B — 25 Feb 2013
I like Kevin James, he's a very likable leading man. This really is my main reason for wanting to see this movie. In a nutshell Scott Voss (James) was once a decent if not amazing school teacher but has since let things slide as he uses his biology class as a study hall.
Shortly thereafter we find out that the school is closing down extracurricular arts including music. The reason here why Scott cares is because he does appear to be friends with Marty Streb (played by Henry Winkler) and as such Scott is now fighting to figure out how to save this mans job.
After taking up some extra teaching Scott figures out that MMA may be his best shot at getting the money in time. This is almost a tried and true story, and for the most part it works. While the trailers did portray it as funny, the jokes or gags are peppered in rather than spread throughout.
It's not perfect but honestly it's a pretty decent movie.
