Review of Here Alone (2016) by Ky K — 22 May 2017
Here Alone: If you like your zombie apocalypse with a heavy dose of realism, then this is the movie for you. Ann is living a regimented solo existence in the remote woods of upstate New York following a mysterious population-gutting viral epidemic.
But after rescuing a teenage girl and her stepfather, Ann finds herself fending off more than just starvation and attacks from the infected. The film is well acted, deftly weaving emotional complexity, a mesmerizing feeling of dread and flashbacks into Ann's prior life that culminates in an ending that, while initially frustrating, upon retrospection, makes perfect sense.
B+.
