Review of Hercules (2014) by Hanny D — 26 Sep 2010
It was OK, I guess but not an instant Disney classic.
THE GOOD.
The easily best thing about this movie is James Woods as Hades. That part was just absolutely perfect and Woods made it his own. The songs "Go the Distance" and "I Won't Say I'm in Love" are the top numbers in the film. The rest of the cast was enjoyable too, Danny DeVito was a great actor in this. The scene with the Hydra was very clever, I enjoyed the mix of traditional animation and CGI.
THE BAD.
I wasn't a fan of the animation in this film. I think they were trying to imitate the images from Ancient Greek plates and vases but something about just didn't work for me. The plot was a little flat too. Everything was just revealed too quickly and the other songs were just forgetable.
THE BOTTOM LINE.
The film is OK but all-round it's just forgetable. Disney is known for it's raising of the bar but this film didn't quite make it.
