Review of Hercules (2014) by Lucas K — 27 Nov 2010
I so badly want to give this movie the coveted 4.5 star rating. It has so much stuff that would appeal to me: A Disney animated movie about Greek mythology, featuring a couple reminiscent of Clark Kent-Lois Lane, and one of the best Disney soundtracks around.
But I can't. I can't, in good faith, give this movie a 4.5 star rating. The story of this movie woulda been tight... but the timing is all off. There is no room for the emotional scenes to breathe.
Hercules finds out the truth about Meg BAM Meg saves his life BAM He sacrifies himself for her BAM. It all sounds good, but the pacing is way off, and basically none of the emotional impact is allowed to sink in.
So yeah, this is one of those movies in which it's a personal favorite of mine, but I really can't say it's THAT good, because it's not quite there yet. The ideas, the songs, it was all great, but it wasn't executed the way Disney is capable of executing it.
