Review of Hercules (2014) by Matt S — 22 Feb 2011
This movie had a great concept, but I have several complaints about it. First, I felt like many of the backgrounds used were relatively uninspired and bland. I am not complaining about the animation, just the background art.
Secondly, I felt it was greatly rushed. It was rushing through the plot so fast, especially the INSTANT heartfelt love between the two leads. I felt like a slower approach that detailed more of the backgrounds of Hades (the lead antagonist), Meg (female love interest), and even Hercules's (lead protagonist) childhood would make it a much deeper film.
One last thing, the emotional sides of the story seemed greatly downplayed. It never shows the true emotion (or lack there-of) of Hercules's parents losing him. This is also very evident when Hercules meets his father for the first time.
He found his real birth father, which would be a big deal for most people. Instead it feels like they knew each other all along and it was just another oppurtunity to say hi (I know his father has been there but at least Hercules should show his dad some true emotion).
