Review of Herbie Fully Loaded (2005) by Jason H — 15 Aug 2011
Having been a huge fan of the original 'Herbie' films when I was little, I approached this one cautiously. This is my favorite magic car in films. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find an update of the 'franchise' with the same style and spirit of the originals.
The opening credits (filled with clips from the old films) especially helped to ease my mind. I was impressed with the skill in which they managed to give the car a personality; I felt the same sadness and horror for Herbie as for, say, the balloon at the end of 'The Red Balloon'.
Wisely, the creators kept the modern special effects to a minimum, choosing instead to rely on a more subtle approach.
