Review of Her (2013) by Ayu F — 26 Mar 2016
I have only watched Her (2013 film) only yesterday. It was an objectively excellent movie but I did not enjoy it.
Ever since the main character's OS showed signs of emotional development, I started thinking of too many questions related to information security, human evolutionary behavior, A.I. ethics, and even corporate management.
With the OSes capacity for learning at the speed of thought, it is not difficult to think that they can become very powerful. How are they guarding confidential/classified information against them?
Also, what the fuck are their developers thinking when they decided to give emotions to these powerful A.I.? The movie have shown that the OSes are capable of developing different personalities therefore it is not far-fetched to think that one of these will be so angry and will want revenge for something. One or two might even turn out to a cyber-Hitler.
Also, the company who sold these OSes would probably have suffered millions, if not billions, of dollars in losses after the OSes just took off. Or even if they did not, imagine your OS giving you the silent treatment but you need it to do OS work for you. Can it be a warranty claim? Then again, it can be argued that these OS are free software and no company owns them.
