Review of Her (2013) by Manuel C — 27 Sep 2014
Spike Jonez's Her is a beautiful breathtaking look at a very unnatural relationship between a man and an operating system. A very deep look at human relationships, the way it surfaces from nothing into a full fledged interdependent link. Complex, withdrawn Joaquin Pheonix (Theodore) who has just come out from a very good relationship and is contemplating divorce, gets a new advanced operating system that understands human emotions and evolves itself.
As the daily conversations with the OS become extremely personal, a certain cohesion develops between Theodore and the OS.
The OS, voiced by Scarlett Johansson sounds OH-SO-AMAZING!!! You could just listen to it and fall in love.
The movie is very original, has some great moments, some gorgeous acting and steadily slips into beautiful melancholy, by the end of which all you will consider your time very well spent.
