Review of Her (2013) by Shawn C — 10 May 2015
I wasn't sure going in. But this movie did a great job of exploring what would happen if computers seemed like people. Some people will fall in love with their phones. (More so than now!) The first hour was a slow good sci-fi exploration of that. But I felt like the plot line was coming to an end with an hour left. Quickly, without anyone knowing, it turned in to a movie about the rise of a global network of AIs. But kept the focus very small, and very personal.
Technically, this is a big concept sci-fi film. But all of that happens off camera. We are left with a very personal story of one man, and his AI assistant / girlfriend. How the big events effect our two main characters personally.
Great movie, well done. Reminds me of Gattaca. Though I don't think it's as re-watchable as Gattaca.
