Review of Her (2013) by Caroline H — 26 Jul 2015
Do I like my computer? Yes. Do I like my Phone? Yes. Do I love or am I in love with either, HELL NO. Joaquin Phoenix shows just how versatile he is as an actor, even when the story is as contrived as this, he makes it work with ease.
He plays a writer who falls in love with the Operating System on his phone, I mean it, they say I love you, talk for hours, have, um, phone sex? LOL, Scarlett Johansson is the voice on the other end and she is quite good as well considering she has zero screen time, and one of my favorites, Amy Adams is there as well, playing Phoenix's best friend, and the few scenes she is in, she is great, but she's always great so what else is new.
I've seen much worse than this, and seen far better, but this was more about seeing Joaquin's ability to make this work, and he does. MILD RECOMMENDATION for Phoenix, Scarlett's voice, and anyone who, well, loves their phone.
