Review of Henry's Crime (2010) by Jeramie K — 23 Jun 2012
Half way between a caper and a rom-com this is the story of Henry, a toll attendant living a very dull life in Buffalo. After being unwittingly part of a bank robbery, Henry spends a short spell in prison, and when he comes out he decides to commit the crime for real with the help of his former cell mate Max. Soon he finds out that the vault of the bank is connected to an old tunnel underneath the local theatre and he ends up falling in love with the main lead actress Julie. Henry has to get a role in the play in order to access the tunnel and the vault.
There are moments where this story is interesting the problem is that Henryâ(TM)s character makes no sense. As a viewer I cannot fully understand why he doesnâ(TM)t reveal the identities of the criminals that framed him the first time around plus it is extremely unlikely that somebody would choose the very same criminals to attempt it the second time. Then, why rob the bank anyway? I donâ(TM)t buy it.
The love story is a little more coherent but it doesnâ(TM)t grab me either. There isnâ(TM)t anything that hooks you strongly to the plot and we end up detached from the developments in the screen.
