Review of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) by Michael S — 20 Jun 2006
Watched Dog Day Afternoon last night and really enjoyed it. It's much funnier than most reviews implied; they tended to describe it as a serious film with funny moments, but I found most of it pretty funny. Al Pacino does an incredible acting job, and the film is well done in almost every respect. Not a dull moment despite the fact that it's about a standoff.
I fell asleep watching Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, and the combination led to weird dreams involving hostage situations, murders, and, for some reason, getting my nose cut Chinatown-style. Henry wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular either. Outside of its melodramatic score, it's not even flawed really, just somehow lackluster in conception.
I woke up with a new appreciation of Poe's "Amazed" from Haunted. Maybe this happens to everyone, but I've listened to that album many, many times, and suddenly this morning I had that song in my head, and realized how great of a song it is. I also recently gained an appreciation for "Spanish Doll." Amazing album all around.
