Review of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) by Mike P — 02 Feb 2008
I liked the gritty/dirty look and feel of the film. Henry is very unsettling, in a Norman Bates way. Rooker does a fantastic job in the title role. I didn't find it to be incredibly shocking, but I was somewhat unsettled by the taped murder that Otis and Henry watch over and over again on their T.
V. The violence is pretty limited, but it is effective whenever it is used. Not really an enjoyable, or likeable, film, due to the storyline. These are terrible people who do terrible things, and it's hard to really root for them.
Still, it's a very interesting, and sometimes creepy, look into the lives of the killers next door.
