Review of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) by Edith N — 16 Jul 2009
I belong to a minority who weren't as moved by the film in fact sometimes really disliked it. Rooker and David Katz are incredible in this film, cold in the heart and bones in the end. The violence is unsettling and taken with the upmost seriousness, in fact the movie was so gritty that the dvd isn't any better looking than a vhs cassette of the same film, it's flawless.
After the first few murders shown I got the sense of macabre behind Henry but then it doesn't go anywhere really. A story is here and the mind of Hnery is exposed but not to the degree I think it should have been.
--------------- if you see it as a movie saying, "they kill, and they live fine with that." then you may enjoy it but I want a film to be so much more, the world is cruel I know that, I don't need to watch Henry to reinforce that.
Props to director but go further next time if your still interested in this area, more could have been done with Henry. A good attempt is what it is.
