Review of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) by Jonathan A — 05 Dec 2009
Disturbing, raw look at a day in the life of a sociopath, loosely based on serial killer Henry Lee Lucas. Apparently largely controversial, due to the violence, this film manages to shock the viewer more because of it's refreshingly simplistic and veritee appearance; much of the violence is shown after the fact, implied by sound-effects in flashback, thus leaving the murders up to horrifying interpretation.
Michael Rooker is also excellent as the cold, and aloof Henry. My one gripe was the 80s synth score for this film made "Henry" look too much like a slasher, when it's so much more than that, beyond a bad, TV-movie-esque title.
For horror and indie-film buffs, alike.
