Review of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) by Buddy K — 07 Sep 2010
An indy serial killer flick that manages to avoid also being a slasher flick. Definitely not for everybody, this is fairly brutal and unapologetic in its violent scenese which are done in a very no frills sort of way much like the no nonsense naturalistic performance of its star.
That said there's some very very 80's scoring going on on the soundtrack that occassionaly distracts and two of the actors in what is mostly a three person show don't always have what it takes but Michael Rooker is constantly captivating as Henry and never overdoes the psychosis angle like most actors in these sort of roles do.
Definitely worth a look for those interested in a more realistic approach to serial killers in cinema.
