Review of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) by David U — 30 Oct 2012
'Henry' is a film hard to nail down for most people. The film spouts at least one or two great performances, but they are far outweighed by the terrible ones. The soundtrack is overbearingly 80s.
The film is shot almost like a low-budget TV show. All of these things fight so hard against it for most people, and to them I say get over it. However, if you are of the kind who was able to get past all of that, and it was the uncompromisingly dark, twisted, and horrifying plot and characters that turned you away, I can't very much blame you.
Respect for this film is definitely an acquired taste, and some will never come close, and that's fine. For those that can, however, will find a horrifyingly detailed study of two different sociopathic minds, and how they see and interact with the world.
It's, at times, unflinchingly realistic in it's portrayal, and most will not be able to stomach it.
