Review of Henry Poole Is Here (2008) by Gerard C — 25 Feb 2010
Synopsis: Convinced his death is imminent, Henry Poole (Luke Wilson), he buys a home in the neighborhood he grew up in hoping to catch a glimpse of the last place he was truly happy before the end. A miracle may have appeared in the stucco of his home.
PROS.
Quirky.
Luke Wilson.
Neighbors.
Effective Ambiguity.
CONS.
Drags at times.
Final Analysis: This movie has a very quirky and subdued tone. Luke Wilson's character is very depressed making this film at times depressing and slow. He is waiting to die. His neighbor becomes convinced that the Visage of Jesus Christ has appeared in the stucco of Henry Poole's home. He thinks it's a stain. A romance begins between Henry and his other neighbor, a single mother with a child who doesn't speak. People experience miracles when they touch the stucco Christ.
DIFFERENT, DECENT FILM. GOOD INDIE FLICK.
