Review of Henry Fool (1998) by Rebecca S — 31 Jul 2008
I love Hal Hartley, and I love Henry Fool (the character). This is not my favorite Hartley film by far. The cast/acting is perfect, but it's much less accessible than Faye Grim, downright unpleasant at times, but just as impeccably timed/paced as everything he does.
Somewhat messy, quite enjoyable, funny, and surprisingly compelling. Also, was Liam Aiken a cute kid or what? Did he even go through an awkward phase? The connection between his, what, 6 year old Ned and Ned at 16 or so in Faye Grim is brilliant!
