Review of Helvetica (2007) by Andi D — 16 Jan 2008
Very interesting doc about something we see everyday but don't take the time to stop and think about. A little slow in the beginning, but I found it fascinating how fascinating the typographers and graphic designers found fonts and typography to be, and not just the lettering itself but the spacing as well.
They spoke with such passion, it's great! I never realized how fonts can have such life and personality, and it can evoke certain feelings and emotions. I liked how one of the designers compared choosing a type to being a casting director.
.. one bad choice can spell disaster. Overall I loved it, it was very cool to learn the history and progression of Helvetica and see how it's changed the world.
