Review of Helvetica (2007) by Zachary L — 19 Feb 2008
I don't think I will look at type in the same way after this movie. I mean sure I see the differences in type but this film really delves into the world of typography which isn't really at the forefront of my casual thought process.
The rise of Helvetica as the de facto standard in type was very interesting. I especially enjoyed the interviews with the old time designers and the references to the rise of typefaces as a result of the computer.
That part, at least to me, was very relevant. The music and visuals were also top-notch which basically constitutes shots of various major modern cities and the prevalence of Helvetica in so much of our modern lives.
