Review of Helvetica (2007) by Anthea F — 08 Feb 2010
Superlative doc that highlights the taken-for-granted typeface which has been all-pervasive since the 50s. Various designers (eg Carson, Vignelli and dissenter Spiekermann) wax fulsomely on the pros & cons of the font, which is alternately admired for its figure/ground perfection, history-ending function, war-drum beating & corporate shilling.
Recommended.
