Review of Helter Skelter (2004) by Jenna — 02 May 2008
This flick is split into two halves. The first half is about the various Manson murders, none of which he actually did himself - Charles Manson didn't kill a single person they were all done by various members of his 'family', on his orders. The second half is all about the trial and sentencing of Manson and his 'family'.
The movie was ok. Nothing majorly wrong with it, and the music and acting were all superb. But I just felt like there was something missing. Most characters, apart from Manson himself, and the main chick, have no characterization at all, and I would have liked to see more backstory on how Manson got his 'family' and WHY hey believe he's the second coming of Jesus. Also, they talked about events and details on the people and murders in the movie, yet never actually showed it, such as the attempted assassination of the President of the U.S., and all the satanism and devil-worshiping stuff that went on isn't even mentioned. They glossed over SO MUCH detail. Still, it was decent and the best Charles Manson movie I've seen yet.
Oh, and Jeremy Davies, who is currently playing on Lost, is the BEST Manson actor, ever. He plays the part so perfectly.
