Review of Hellzapoppin' (1941) by Zoran S — 21 Jul 2009
Wow. This is, without a doubt, the craziest slapstick/ musical I've ever seen. I am not sure I can accurately describe its tone. It plays a bit like the Marx Brothers crossed with Preston Sturges if both were on speed and hallucinogens.
Or something like that. I especially love the densely layered self-referential jokes characters make about the film we are watching. This really needs to be seen. It's a genuine oddity.
