Review of Hellraiser: Revelations (2011) by Al M — 08 Dec 2011
So disappointed in this film!! As a Hellraiser fan and having seen all the previous installments (mostly thanks to Netflix) I have to say this ninth one is the worst from the franchise. What a letdown! I surmise Clive Barker (Hellraiser creator) had to know writers and others in the production crew were going to make this film and its release on dvd its an affront to Pinhead, the Cenobytes, Doug Bradley (the man behind Pinhead) and Clive Barker.
What a CALAMITY! It lacks the intensity, craftiness, ingenuity, and good acting of the previous films. It is so bad that maybe Redbox passed on it; I found out about it as I was browsing the movies in VUDU.
The storyline is about two best friends (Steven Craven and Nico Bradley) that run away from home and travel to Mexico. While partying in Mexico they come across a stranger that hands them over "the box" with promises of incredible pleasure and pain.
.The guys disappear and the Mexican authorities turn over their belongings to the American pollice. Their parents mourn their possible death/disappearance until a year later when Emma (Nico's gf) decides to play with the box and opens the gateway to hell, bringing Nico back from the dead, or so to speak.
It continues spiraling down from there..Not recommended!
