Review of Hellraiser: Hellseeker (2002) by Ida T — 11 Feb 2011
I haven't seen the other movies in this franchise, so I'm not going to tread carefully here... but I watched this one, because Dean Winters plays the main character, and expected a really REALLY bad horror film, because I never felt interested in watching Hellraiser to begin with, because it seems bad as it is, but this being sequel number five.
.. I was expecting horror, not in the shape of story, but in the shape of awful scriptwriting and film-making. And to my delight, it was actually rather good, well not good-good, but it was hilarious. I wouldn't say the plot line wasn't predictable, but it was executed in such an imaginative and fun way that it didn't bother me at all.
And Dean Winters, this probably one of the best performances I've seen from him, because he was hilariously funny. Now, I'm talking about this as though it were a comedy, and you might think that's not a very good grade for a horror flick, but I think of all horror films of this type in terms of entertainment value, because I can't actually take them serious, so that's just me.
But this was actually leaning more toward comedy-funny rather than horror-flick-funny in several scenes, due to Winters' performance. I was laughing aloud to half of the scenes, no exaggeration. If you're usually amused by these types of horror films, then I'd say it's definitely worth a look.
