Review of Hellraiser (1987) by Greg L — 11 Nov 2013
The film that put Clive Barker on the map as a horror icon and the character Pin-head. This film deals heavily in S&M, all of which is activated by the solving of a puzzle box. I do not have a lot to say about this film.
I did not find it scary, or even a suspense-thriller. The cenobites are cool to look at purely for a design purpose, but overall this film did not age well. It has such a strong 80s overtone and there are really not that many scenes in the film featuring the cenobites.
The acting was decent, although a little over the top from the husband character. See this film if you are into the classic horror monsters of the 80s like Jason and Freddy, but those are still better films than this one, and there are even better classic horror films out there.
