Review of Hellraiser (1987) by Jon P — 03 Feb 2015
Iconic 80s horror with more mood swings than sense, Clive Barker's classic is 93 minutes of utter mayhem.
The tone straddles a very British line between manic melodrama and maniacal horror, with our leading lady, Clare Higgins, playing Miss Paranoid Psychopath to perfection (or poop, depending on the scene).
Conceptually, Barker's idea is fantastic, but the execution is flawed and fragmented, mostly with regard to pacing problems and Frank-zombie regeneration inconsistencies. Either way, the 80s was a horror movie haven, and Hellraiser isn't one to be missed.
