Review of Hellraiser (1987) by Jason M — 10 Nov 2015
IN A NUTSHELL this gruesome horror is about a drifter who opens a mysterious puzzle box which contains...yep, you've guessed it, a gateway to hell. He disappears and some time later, begins re-appearing in the house where he opened the box, which is now occupied by his brother and his wife with whom he had an affair.
But, there's a catch, to fully complete his transition back into our world he needs blood, lots of blood (will his brothers wife help him, perhaps?) That's it for my description I don't want to spoil anything but I'll tell you, not for the faint hearted this one.
It's written and directed by Clive Barker (his directorial debut) who knows how to shock and the film does just that. It's aged really well to say it's nearly 30 years old, the effects are great.
From a hand being raked across a rusty nail to a face being torn apart by hooks my advice is wait til well after your foods settled before attempting a viewing. A good horror, gets a little wishy washy towards the end but a must for any scary movie fan, and it's where Clive Barker announced himself as a master of shock horror.
This one also introduced us to one of the most memorable movie villains of all time, Pinhead.
