Review of Hello, My Name Is Doris (2015) by Peter F — 20 Mar 2016
Hello, My Name is Doris is the type of film that overcomes its stereotypical indie tropes by being well-rounded, timely, and above-all endearing. The film's story of an older, misfit woman's attempt to romanticize a much younger man could have come off as a fluffy fantasy, but instead it handles the material in a manner that's both realistic and sweet.
Sally Field gives a wonderful performance here, and proves to have good chemistry with the younger set of actors. Ending on a note that's both bittersweet and comical, Hello, My Name is Doris is one of the year's most surprising indie films, and probably the closest thing to a good "date" movie in theaters right now.
