Review of Hello, Dolly! (1969) by Lane R — 20 Nov 2007
Not even my ex-wife's marked resemblance to a young Barbara Streisand can dampen my enthusiasm for this delightful romp. Streisand is wonderful as Dolly Levi, her passion for life pervading her actions, from arranging two young rubes from Yonkers to court two charming New York City women, to pursuing and ultimately wedding her target, cantankerously charming half-a-millionaire Horace Van Der Gelder (Walter Matthau).
A catchy and infectious soundtrack move the story wonderfully along, making this a wonderfulyl enjoyable movie. A true American classic.
