Review of Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) by A T — 07 Apr 2011
Likable follow up to the original film, "Hellboy & The Golden Army" has some excellent moments, but is a bit overwhelmed by CGI. It's a lot of fun, but there are some plot holes and character motivations that are completely overlooked.
In addition you get the feeling that the relationship between Hellboy and his female lead is advancing too fast for its own good when a major revelation is made. Certainly del Toro can make action films, and although there is his design and touch in this production- it's not "Pan's Labyrinth" so one should not expect to derive secrets of the universe, just have some fun in a modern comic book action film.
