Review of Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) by Trevor R — 24 May 2011
Hellboy 2 continues Guillermo del Toro's run with the comic book hero Hellboy. Everything is bigger and more extravagant than the first. There is a lot more comedic relief than the first which turned me off a little bit in the beginning, but I enjoyed it the more and more I got used to it.
The action was pretty awesome and far outdid some of the stuff in the first. There is also quite a bit more character development which helped in the relationships formed in the film. Guillermo also pulls no punches with his insane amount of creatures.
He goes to amazing lengths to show the diversity of each of them. From the tiniest tooth fairy creature to the biggest elemental giant, each has its own unique look. If you liked the first Hellboy, this one should be on your radar.
