Review of Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) by Rotten T — 18 Jun 2011
Hellboy II is absolutely astounding. Crisp direction, beautiful costumes and set design, well balanced action, and an intriguing story that's well written and executed. The movie comes from the deepest depths of director Guillermo del Toro's imagination, fusing fantastic worlds with our own.
The visuals are stupendous, and the storytelling is flawless. And of course, who could forget that ending? The revelation that comes to our red hero results in the most hilarious look on a face I've ever seen, and the cut to Barry Manilow's "I Can't Smile Without You" ends the movie with a smile of satisfaction.
One of the most intelligent and magical comic book adaptations I've seen.
