Review of Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) by Kenneth B — 08 Sep 2012
Hellboy 2 suffers from a dull, uninteresting plot which is no better than your run of the mill fantasy flick. The humour falls flat on most occasions (Red stumbling down the steps made me titter) and the action scenes hardly set the bar any higher than it already stands.
The more foolish among us would have pondered that Del Toros achievements since the first Hellboy might have promised a grander sequel. Unfortunately this isn't the case. It has its moments but they are few a far between.
It is all a little nonsensical, even for a comic book film. Perhaps I lack a frame of reference I'm not exactly an avid comic book fan but the film should still translate to the general market (i.
E., me). Taking into account the sheer number of 'comic book' adaptations that are being released there is a great danger of all but the very best will be forgotten by all but the die hard fans.
