Review of Hellboy (2004) by Andrew R — 24 Aug 2011
A extraordinary adaptation of Mike Mignola's cult comic book series about a powerful demonic being nicknamed "Hellboy," who was put on Earth during World World II by the Nazis and the evil Rasputin to destroy the world, he is rescued from those evil forces by the benevolent Professor Trevor "Broom" Bruttenholm, played beautifully by John Hurt and the American army, Hellboy is raised by the Professor who loves him like a son, to be a hero and defender against the forces of darkness, he now works for the a super secret agency for United States government called the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense as one of their top agents, Hellboy is played by the great character actor Ron Perlman who is magnificent as the charismatic cigar-chomping sarcastic badass, who is also emotionally vulnerable, meticulous direction by Gullermo del Toro who also scripted this outstanding film, marvelous supporting performances by Selma Blair, Rupert Evans, Jeffrey Tambor, Doug Jones, David Hyde Pierce, imaginative visual effects that are truly brilliant and intense and thrilling action sequences.
A wicked outlandishly entertaining film. Highly Recommended.
