Review of Hellboy (2004) by Kyle A — 22 Feb 2011
Surprisingly smart, graphically faithful live-action adaptation of the Mike Mignola series. One of those rare movies that's not only based on a comic book, but also feels like a comic book. It's vibrating with energy, and you can sense the zeal and joy in its making. Hellboy is on fire with scares and laughs and del Toro's visionary dazzle. It's the tenderness that comes as an unexpected bonus.
VERDICT: "Full Price" - Second highest rating in the system (Positive Reaction). This is a rating to a movie I view as very entertaining and well made, and definitely worth paying the full price at a theater to see or own on DVD. It is not perfect, but it is definitely excellent..
