Yes that is what happens. Envy and hate open paths to torment. Lost individuals can want it and then are owned. The sequel opens up the dreamscape like a carnival, but oddly the new director doesn't even know what he made.
Sometimes the actors direct themselves. The 1980s Clive Barker ethos shows the dark and light. The girls fight back and represent a positive POV that is lost in current horror movies (Eli Roth/Death Proof/Machete/Saw) that push the koolaid of degradation and hate.
