Review of Hell Ride (2008) by Rumi O — 05 Aug 2008
Oh man, this movie is getting HORRIBLE reviews, but I really enjoyed it. I think people walk into this movie expecting a typical mindless Tarantino action flick (e.g. Kill Bill) when it's something a lot deeper than that (plus, it's not a Tarantino film; he's just the executive producer).
There's action, there's violence, there's drug use, there's TONS and TONS of nudity/sex ("I've seen less nudity in a porno!" as one review humorously puts it), but none of it, even as squeamish as I can get, was gratuitous. It was all necessary for the plot and setting the mood of the movie.
The story is pretty simple, but different aspects of it keep unfolding. A lot of the twists were unexpected and the most important thing for any movie: I liked and sympathized with a good majority of the characters. Excellent development and chemistry between the actors.
