Review of Hell Ride (2008) by Adrian P — 19 Nov 2008
The characters speak in riddles, the plot is numbingly simple yet told in the most ergonomically inefficient fashion possible and the entire film feels like some adolescent boys testosterone fueled wet dream.
Seriously, this is some of the worst filmmaking I have seen this year and a completely misguided homage to grindhouse cinema. What should have been a tribute to an all but lost genre (or an era) of filmmaking feels more like a parody and comes of as insulting to the filmmakers that pioneered that 'movement', if you will.
This is a vanity project if there ever was one, not that I can see why Larry Bishop would even get the opportunity to make such a project, but it is here. He surrounds himself by naked women, spouts absurd, illogical one-liners and nearly always has a gun in hand and sun glasses on.
I'll give him credit for (hopefully) having his heart in the right place but in the end it's his heart that kills everything this film could have been.
