Review of Hell Ride (2008) by Kang R — 14 Mar 2009
Boy was this a misfire? Hell Ride easily captures the worst (and some of the good stuff) from 70's exploitation cinema, mainly biker-flicks. Too bad the story was non-existing and half the movie is guys on bikes.
What QT and Rodriguez created with Grindhouse was not only perfect homages to cheap, gritty cinema, but also two of the better offerings within their respective sub-genres. However, Hell Ride remains a pastice and never elevates the level and therefor only works as a semi-fun experience.
A seriously cool cast of cool cats is wasted in the hands of a director who doesn't know what he's doing and couldn't act to save his life. That said, many of these points make it an 'ok' b-movie, full of titties and bad ass vibe.
Kinda worth the experience, but I wouldn't recommend it.
